Designer

Flux is looking for our first full time designer. As a key team member you have a big hand in crafting the environment, culture and experience as you wish to see it.

You’ll be a vital broad spectrum Designer in a small team (6), with opportunities to get your teeth into all creative endeavours from graphic & brand design, system UI/UX, website design and even use simple web technologies like HTML, CSS & JS. An opportunity for leadership and learning with a level of influence unattainable at large organisations.

What the job involves

  • Partner with the co-founders, product, operations, sales, and marketing to understand business objectives and effectively execute design strategy.

  • Take ownership of all design projects, from conception to delivery, and inform the company’s roadmap by advocating for customer needs.

  • Solve all manner of creative challenges with creative solutions and present creative concepts in internal meetings.

  • Your primary responsibility will be the development of marketing collateral, brand assets, and a range of outbound materials, all aimed at boosting brand recognition, promoting our mission to make billboard ads more relevant.

  • See you work up in lights! We work in billboard advertising. If you get fired up by seeing your work in the wild, be prepared for the possibility that your work could be everywhere from the office mural, to our product (billboard ad software platform), to a billboard in Times Square, NYC.

  • Design, maintain and iterate on a bank of master presentation slides that our team can consistently draw upon when pitching our world leading solution.

  • Use photos, type and vector elements to create bespoke communications for stories and social posts.

Who you are

You can clearly and transparently communicate our company story

You’ll be working with a close knit founding team and you need to be able to sell your design vision to the rest of the team, explaining thought processes and how your decisions are weighted. You can’t be super protective of your work.

You’re comfortable with - not just tolerant of - change and uncertainty

We’re a small company that’s constantly trying new things to find what works best so it’s important to be comfortable with lack of structure, be able to context switch and thrive in uncertain situations.

You think about how your ideas can scale

It’s easy to get into a task list approach to implementation but it’s so important to understand how design ideas can be scaled by the entire team, simply and pragmatically.

You're a jack of most trades

Unlike a large company, you’ll be able to work on a little bit of everything. You'll be a great generalist that is comfortable working on many things even if you’re not the greatest in one specific area. You are sublimely resourceful, and if you don’t know the answer, you know how to find out.

You work quickly

As the only designer at Flux, you’ll be someone who can really punch the gas in the first couple of years as we try to keep up with demand. You will be responsible for every level of design and nothing is beneath you. Be open to change, often.

You don't lose sight of good

Design process is important, but losing sight of the good for perfection is not a privilege available to us. Speed is not a dirty word. It allows us all to take big bets, iterate quickly and build our brand with consistent feedback.

Your portfolio is killer

A portfolio that showcases excellent sense of style, a good understanding of graphics, trends and innovation with attention to detail.

You are one with Adobe

Adobe Illustrator - Layout design, Infographic design. Strong understanding of export settings and file management.

Adobe Photoshop - Image editing, photo manipulation, colour grading, mock up creation. Keeping files and layers clean and easy to for collaborators to pick up and work on. AI Generative fill techniques.

Adobe InDesign - Layout design, use of master slides and paragraph/character styles.

You can get behind necessary evil

You are comfortable creating new templates or tidying up presentations from existing designs including those from Canva/ Powerpoint.
